Questions About Classes, Workshops & Meditation Groups
Are sessions held in person, online, or both?
Jean offers both in-person and online opportunities to practice mindfulness. Her weekly online Drop-In Meditation is offered live via Zoom, while her in-studio Drop-In Meditations take place at her Maplewood, NJ studio. Beginners are welcome. No registration is required, and participation is offered by donation. A Mindful Life has in-person groups at the Maplewood studio, as well as online Zoom groups. You can find the schedule listed on A Mindful Life group offering page and choose what group best fits your schedule and needs.
Do you offer mindfulness meditation classes for beginners?
Yes. People who are new to mindfulness and meditation are welcome. While introductory workshops are not always available, Jean offers a variety of ways to begin, including drop-in meditation sessions, select groups, and occasional one-on-one support. Those interested in getting started are encouraged to reach out to learn about current offerings and explore what may be the best fit.
Who are A Mindful Life groups designed for?
A Mindful Life groups are designed for adults who feel the pull to slow down, be more present, less habitually reactive, and for those who want to meet themselves with greater honesty and care. Many participants come seeking a deeper connection with themselves and others, a more grounded way of being, or support in bringing mindfulness more fully into their daily lives. These groups are best suited for people who have some experience with meditation (meditation instruction is not given) as well as having some prior group or therapeutic work, and are interested in ongoing self-reflection and personal growth. They can be a meaningful complement to therapy or a supportive next step for those who have completed therapy and wish to continue growing within a mindful and compassionate community.
I've tried meditation before, but my mind won't stop. Am I doing it wrong?
A busy mind isn't a problem to fix, it's part of being human. Mindfulness practice isn't about forcing the mind into stillness. It's about learning to notice thoughts, feelings, and sensations with less habitual reactivity, and without attaching to or adding onto what’s arising. We can gradually develop greater curiosity and kindness rather than frustration to what arises. The noticing is the practice.
How do I know which group or workshop is right for me?
Jean offers brief 15-minute discovery calls to help you explore which class, group, or workshop might be the best fit for where you are right now. Whether you're drawn to stress reduction, self-reflection, or simply the warmth of a like-minded community, there are different ways in.
Are there mindfulness meditation groups near Maplewood, NJ?
Yes. Jean's studio is located in Maplewood, New Jersey and welcomes participants from South Orange, Millburn, Short Hills, Chatham, Summit, and surrounding Essex and Morris County communities.
How much do mindfulness classes and groups cost?
Pricing varies depending on the offering. 8-week sessions of A Mindful Life are currently $280. 2-hour workshops are typically $40. Drop-in meditations are offered by donation (suggested $15-20). Current rates and registration details are shared on each offering page and during the inquiry process.
Will new workshops and groups be offered throughout the year?
Yes. New workshops, retreats, and special offerings are added regularly. The best way to stay connected is to join Jean's newsletter or reach out directly to hear about what's coming.
